Visitors flock to Paris for all sorts of reasons. To view the fine art collections perhaps or enjoy shopping in some of the world's most fashionable boutiques. Artists and photographers come for the light and many are drawn just by the unique ambiance of this wonderful city. For some though, the cooking in Paris is a major attraction. Perhaps no other country in the world is so synonymous with food as is France and its wonderful capital city is of course at the very heart of this renowned cuisine. It is one thing to simply sample the cooking in Paris but to better understand and appreciate French food, learning how to cook it is the key.
At Le Foodist, we like to take a deeper approach to understanding French food. We believe that the food and culture of France are inextricably linked and to learn about one is to better understand the other. This holistic approach is mirrored in our courses on cooking in Paris, where our lessons begin not in the kitchen but in the market. The ability to select the best produce for the kitchen is a foundation stone of any cooking. Choosing what is fresh and in season will shape the dishes you will create and only then will you start to design your menu.
Now that you have your ingredients and menu, it is time to learn about the core techniques of French cooking. Each of our courses covers 5-7 of these skills, building towards a total of the 192 key skills required for professional certification. Our teaching style is fun and relaxed and we utilise an original technique to help you learn faster and retain that knowledge after the class is finished.
With all the hard work finished, it is now time to enjoy the food you have cooked. Our courses conclude with a three course meal with matching wine and around the table we discuss how cooking in Paris is shaped by the culture of the city and vice versa. By sharing our stories and experiences of French food and cooking, we hope also to develop your appreciation of French culture, increasing your pleasure in both France and its cooking. In addition to courses on general cooking in Paris, we also offer specialised classes on pastry and matching wine with food, so there is always something at Le Foodist to tempt your tastebuds and challenge your mind.
