For many visitors and locals alike, dining in Paris is one of the true treats the city has to offer. Paris is rightly famed for its community of top class restaurants, with Michelin starred chefs serving some of the best food in the world. Dining in Paris is not just about haute cuisine though, the city has many outstanding brasseries serving authentic and high quality food in a more informal atmosphere. Then there are the bistros of Paris. It seems that every street corner has one of these casual little establishments and the best of them serve simple but well cooked artisanal dishes in relaxed surroundings.
Eating in these wonderful restaurants is pleasure enough but learning to cook classic French dishes gives a deeper understanding and appreciation of French cuisine. At Le Foodist we offer a range of courses, from patisserie to our full 'Travel and Chef' cookery lessons. For us, dining in Paris is more enjoyable when you understand how the dishes have been created and also where they come from. That is why our cookery lessons encompass learning also about French culture. We believe that only by learning about the culture and history of France do we then understand the food and in turn, understanding food leads us to a deeper appreciation of French culture.
When our cookery course is finished, we sit down together to enjoy the food we have prepared and to share our thoughts on French food and the culture which gives it shape. Over three courses with matching wines we broaden our understanding of the food and in turn the people, geography and history which has brought it to our plate. With this new knowledge, dining in Paris becomes an even more pleasurable experience, whether at the table of our grandest restaurants or on the pavement by a simple bistro.
For those who prefer to eat and discuss the food without actually cooking it, our 'Once Upon a Table' gourmet evenings provide a hand-picked, five course menu of classic French dishes and matching wines, designed to showcase the very best of French gastronomy. These sessions too are accompanied by much discussion of the broader French culture which makes dining in Paris such a unique experience. Whether your taste is for bistro classics or fine French cooking, your enjoyment will be deepened by your experiences at Le Foodist.
